Northeast of Skanee and just inland from Lake Superior’s Huron Bay lies a wildlife haven where watchful visitors may see signs of beaver or moose. In the southeast corner of the sanctuary, there is a cedar swamp and an upland maple forest. To the northwest is a beach ridge covered with white pine. Flowing through the west end of the property are navigable water channels, which are part of a slough that eventually opens into Lightfoot Bay.
